Metal Bed Frames

by Daryl D Reeves, Building Biologist

"There has been a boom in the marketing of magnetic items, what do you think of the magnetic bed mattress pad?"

A wooden bed base is preferable to a metal one

Under no circumstances do we consider anything with metal to be beneficial in relation to bedding.  Metal bed frames, innersprings, magnetic mats and the like, all conduct electricity and as such attract electrical fields to the bed which in turn increase the body voltage of the occupant.

This goes to prevent the sleeper from being able to properly rest.  Incidentally, the wearing of all types of metal jewellery does the same and can be a problem to electrical sensitive people particularly where they have to work with electrical equipment eg computers.

The other matter of concern with metal in relation to the bedding is that it can be magnetised which changes the body's natural alignment with the earth's magnetic field. This may be the intention of such a device as mentioned above or perhaps the intention is to try and realign the magnetic field for the benefit of the sleeper, but there can be no way of telling the effects of such an alignment due to the various potential bed positions, and personally I think that this thing is just an extension of the growing magnetic jewellery business with dubious health benefits (there are no "quick" fixes).

So I would suggest from a health perspective that they were certainly not recommended for sleeping on under any circumstances.
