To build and live in a sustainable way means to make use of the materials available without waste; it means being intuitive about what is best for ourselves and our environment.  Many of us living in cities have become de-sensitised to our own needs and those of our environment.  So much of our lives is controlled or maintained that we need to regain control for ourselves.

This means, for instance, analysing the products we buy and the waste we produce to reduce landfills, rather than sending all of our rubbish to be dealt with by someone else in another place.  It means separating our rubbish and composting organic matter back into our gardens.

'Sustain' means to 'bear the weight of, or support', but it also means 'to undergo or suffer'.  So we have a choice to go either way in our actions towards our environment.

The term 'ecological' stems from Ecology, the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.

So as intelligent beings it behoves us to examine our relation to one another and our physical surroundings, for the good of ourselves and our world.

We only have one earth, let's look after it a bit more in our own way...today!
